I went in to get a mani/pedi today before my vacation. Hubby and I are going up to Connecticut for five days to stay with wonderful friends we don't see enough. I am pretty excited about it. We are leaving tonight and should be back in 5 days. It will be the peak of the fall foliage and I hope to have some beautiful pictures to share. It will also be lovely to get away from this Florida heat into the brisk fall air.
I sat at a different nail station than usual. It had me facing a wall of mirrors as she did my nails. Every time I looked up I wondered who was staring at me. I have large eyes but the girl in the mirror had small piggish eyes. I have an oval face but the girl in the mirror had a very round moon pie face. She also had chubby little sausage fingers and the beginnings of a double chin. Who is that?
The second hardest thing in the world is to do is hate the mirror. The hardest is changing what you see because you have to let go of that image. You have to realize that today, you are willing to work for something better at any cost to you. Being that uncomfortable is scary, but if you stop talking about it and get started. All of you dreams will be fulfilled.
ReplyDeleteokay i am looking at your picture as I type this.. U do not have piggy eyes or a moon pie shaped face.. I promise.. have faith in yourself and when you look in the mirror see the gorgeous girl everyone else sees and not that negative image you have in your head.. I have to always work on this too.. have a fun time
ReplyDeleteCan totally relate.... I get my pedicures at a cheap and cheerful place and sit in these lovely vibrating chairs... however I face a wall of mirrors and I just hate looking up and seeing myself... it's so weird to not see on the outside what I *feel* on the inside... I often do a double take. I end up just not looking up, otherwise my nice relaxing MUCH DESERVED pedicure is ruined by my self-criticism.
ReplyDeleteOne of my recent posts was about a picture that was taken where I looked how I feel I look... unlike my reflection in the mirror, I could stare at that picture for hours!!!!
I don't know why, but I think mirrors in hair salons, etc. always make people look 100 times worse than they actually do! You look great in the pic here on your blog!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great vacation! :)
I just found your blog today while searching around for dieter blogs.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have fun on your trip up north. I have to agree that the heat down here in S. Florida is unbearable. Even on the rainy days it is way too hot.
I often wonder who the girl in the mirror is ... I can't wait to recognize myself again.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your vacation.
Yeah, that happens to me everytime I see my reflection! Where the heck did this chic come from?! I can't wait to lose her that is for sure!
ReplyDeleteI saw the picture and i thought damn she is so cute and based on your face i couldnt tell that you would weigh in the three hundred pound range i though you were beautiful. I can understand how you feel though. I feel the same way when i look at myself though my face doesnt come off as flatering as yours when i loose the weight it will. I have read a few of your stories. It would have been cool if you were on the biggest loser i dont think the producers really understand that they mess with you by doing that that it gives you the slightest hope that somthing will change. What are you doing to try and loose weight? What kind of excercises and diet do you have? I am finding it hard to motivate myself and at the moment it is painfull for me to do much cardio do to my illness. Feel free to message me any time it's nice to have people to talk to who are in the same boat as you. Also I have been inspired by a few peoples stories to create my own blog so check it out if you can and I would greatly appreciate if you can add me to your blog list. http://lizzytish-thewomanwithin.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteOh yeah and can you tell me where you found the background for you page i cant find any good ones? Thanks Liz
Mirrors suck...
ReplyDeleteI hope you are having a fabulous time on your vacation and enjoying a well-deserved break from the heat, humidity and general "ugh-ness" that is SoFla right now :)
