Creating an Arsenal

If you have been reading this blog long, you know that I have had several failed weight loss attempts. Today I was trying to think of the biggest reasons why I failed and I found one that seemed to be most common. I started to lose control when I wasn’t prepared and didn’t plan ahead. Let’s face it, there are going to be days that I run into problems. Plans won’t always go how I would like, and things will slip through the cracks. Usually the thing that I have trouble with the most is packing lunches. It is my least favorite meal mostly because I can cook anything here at work, so I can barely even bring leftovers unless I want to eat it cold. Most mornings I through together a chicken salad or tuna and veggies, but other times I run out the door and forget to pack something. There are a couple restaurants near my work that have healthy choices and in one case even organic. However I am trying to avoid eating out, so I created an arsenal of healthy foods to keep at work that I can grab at a moments notice at work in case of forgot my lunch or am feeling tempted. I actually had to use one today when my co-worker was trying to push cookies in my face. I had some dried berries instead.

My Arsenal:

Organic Soup

Raw Almonds

Organic Dried Fruit

Organic Food Bars

Protein Powder Mix

Organic Cheese Sticks

What would you or do you keep in yours to keep you on track?

  1. peanut butter and a bag of macintosh apples. there is something so delicious about that combination... macs are available about 10 months of the year and, though i would prefer natural pb, a little jar of the conventional stuff keeps fine in my desk drawer.

  2. I keep oatmeal packets but I guess that won't work if you don't have a place to heat water.

I have been reading your blog. It is great! Keep writing!

  3. Hi.

I am a newcomer to your blog. Good job on your success so far! The idea of having a food arsenal is good. I've managed to lose 108 pounds myself, and I am working on another 92. In the beginning I ate similar snacks, but I have found that my most success came when I let go of processed foods, including cheese and dried fruit. Dried fruit spikes insulin. The soup has too much salt which isn't a friend to our hearts or water retention. Cheese is fatty and inflammatory. The almonds is a good though. The protein powder mix, why eat a powder when u can have the real thing? I usually snack on fresh fruit, excluding the bad ones like pineapple and watermelon.

In any case, I wish you good luck on your journey. Eliminating, or limiting, processed foods really does work!

    Best of luck,
    Tashs

  5. Tasha, first of all, congrats on your success. I agree with you that fresh fruits, veggies, and high quality protien should be the main stay of a diet. These are the foods I keep in my office for days something comes up and I need a quick snack to help me avoid eating other things brought into the office. (Candy, doughnuts, bagels, ect.) Or if I have forgotten my lunch, ect. I feel they are all fine choices for once in a while.

  6. Congrats on all your recent successes! You are doing great! Are you saying that you don't even have a microwave at work? That stinks!!! If you are able, you may just want to buy a small microwave and bring it into the office. Some of them are pretty cheap these days. Consider it investing in yourself. :)
